Business Improvements Case Study
I recently spent 9 months supporting a FTSE 250 business that was experiencing a challenging trading environment in one of its business units. Working as an Interim FD, I was tasked with turning around the financial performance of the business unit as well as, enhancing the capabilities of the existing Finance team.
Working with the MD of the unit, I embarked on review of the true profitability of all commercial contracts (incl. New business opportunities), a detailed cost review and a review the unit’s organisation structure/roles and responsibilities, pulling all initiatives together into a business recovery plan focused on returning the unit to profitability and driving revenue growth.
This plan formed the basis of the following year’s business plan and budget and drove the required turnaround in business profitability.
At the same time, I worked with the Finance Team to improve their offering to the business, with the main focus on enhancing the weekly and monthly reporting and analytical capability and moving the team away from manual finance processes allowing more time to be spent on business partnering.
